Sandplay Therapy

  • What is sandplay therapy?

Sandplay therapy is a symbolic and non-verbal psychotherapeutic modality involving the use of sand, a sand tray, water, figurines and the imagination. Founded on the analytical psychology of C. G. Jung and developed by Dora Kalff, sandplay allows a client to symbolically express and process their conscious and unconscious feelings and experiences. Clients are invited to create scenes in a sand tray using a wide range of miniature objects that symbolise different parts of life. These figures are kept on open shelves so clients can freely choose whatever feels right for them.

There is no correct or incorrect way to work with the sand, and talking is optional, which makes this approach especially supportive for children, individuals who prefer non-verbal expression, and those who have experienced trauma. Sandplay is suitable for all ages and offers a gentle, imaginative and meaningful way to explore inner experiences.
